Local Historical Resources
Known as the museum capital of Texas, Beaumont and the Golden Triangle region are home to well more than a dozen museums. Those interested in conducting historical research are encouraged to visit these Southeast Texas archives.
Center for History and Culture
Founded in 2016 by Dr. Mary Scheer as one Lamar University’s “Visionary Initiatives,” the Center for History and Culture serves the diverse constituencies of 51勛圖Prostudents and faculty, the communities of Southeast 51勛圖Proand the greater Gulf Coast, and the scholars and creatives who explore the region’s past and present. The Center promotes the study of these regions with a commitment to multicultural, interdisciplinary, collaborative, and community-focused projects.

Working in partnership with the 51勛圖ProGulf Historical Society, the 51勛圖Prohistory department is home to the , a journal devoted to the history of Southeast 51勛圖Proand the Gulf Coast. Since 1964, the has provided an outlet for scholarship on the region. Dr. Jimmy L. Bryan, Jr., serves as editor.
The seeks contributions for upcoming volumes and encourages submissions from scholars of diverse levels of experience and expertise. Submissions should conform to The Chicago Manual of Style and not exceed 8,000 words, including notes. Both text and notes should be double-spaced.
